German Shepherd Reunited With Indiana Sailor

CHESTERTON, Ind. (July 20, 2015) – This video proves once again that dogs truly are man’s best friend.

Indiana sailor Leland Hanna returned from a seven-month deployment earlier this month.

Leland’s wife Samantha captured the moment when their German Shepherd Duchess was finally reunited with her “dad.”

In addition to being puppy parents, Leland and Samantha are also the proud parents of one-year-old twin girls.

German Shepherd are strong in body, spirit, and mind. They need much attention, love, and firm guidance as they grow — which they do quite quickly.

As a gawky, awkward teenager, a German Shepherd may accidentally knock over a small child or a frail elderly person. Their strong, happy tails can clear tables, and their powerful jaws and teeth can destroy furniture.

This is a slow maturing breed with a longer puppyhood. The new owner must be prepared to provide kind but firm discipline and a secure environment to help the dog develop into a well- behaved adult. German Shepherds love to run and explore their surroundings with their excellent noses. They require alot of exercise, especially while growing. This exercise can be provided by an active owner, another dog or two, or a fenced yard. Tying this dog up is unworkable, as it will create frustration, boredom, and a potentially dangerous dog.
